With so many wonderful species of reef invertebrates to choose from, I generally advise aquarists to collect a more compatible selection of animals with regard for like husbandry preferences. Now the question arises, why dont all aspirating skimmers use needle-wheels or perform similarly? The answer is needle-wheels are a patented technology. It costs real money to license and produce this kind of hardware. The higher end skimmers of this style are very effective, easy to adjust, easy to clean, and moderately sized (modest spatially).

Advantages to Aspirating skimmers:

Top shelf models are categorically consistent and reliable (bubble size, skimmate production, etc.)

Lower maintenance and no significant expense of upkeep (no air stones or pump diaphragms)

Most occupy comparatively less

Hi, my husband is starting a new 170 gal tank with a 100 gal mud sump for me. Is it ok to take maybe a third of the mud from my 50 gal mud sump and use it like a sourdough starter? How long would it take for it to cycle? Thanks.

Where to place my Zoa's??
I was wondering how much light most Zoa's need. I am thinking of putting the new frags lower in the tank, right on the sand bed or just a little above. I have a 26" deep tank and I am using 250W MH and pc Actinics for lighting. I have some zoos that are doing fine in the mid section of the tank and a large colony .
